Nigeria President is Goodluck Jonathan

Nigeria’s Vice President Goodluck Jonathan has been appointed as the acting President on Tuesday.

President Yar’Adua is in a hospital in Saudi Arabia sin under treatment since Nov 09 with a serious heart condition.

Jonathan said in his speech “The circumstances in which I find myself assuming office today as acting president of our country are uncommon, sober and reflective.”

“I am deeply humbled and honoured by this great call to duty,” he said.

The Senate, in its motion, said that Jonathan will now start discharging “the functions of the office of president, commander in chief of the armed forces of the federation, as acting president.”

According to the Nigeria’s constitution the V P can assume full powers when a president officialy formally informs parliament.

Jonathan is reportedly has also received the support of Nigeria’s 36 state governors.
