Floods in Oklahoma City send residents to roofs and treetops
BBC reports, “Oklahoma City resident Ryan Hearne said he had seen at least one man abandon his vehicle on a submerged bridge and grasp a nearby tree before being rescued. ”The boat came through the floodwaters, and they grabbed him out of the tree and got him out of there,” Mr Hearne told the Associated Press news agency.”
Rescue efforts have been successful and no deaths have been reported. Water damage is expected to be high. The National Weather Service has a flood watch in effect for central Oklahoma through Tuesday morning.
Oklahoma City residents are stranded by flood waters. Rescue crews in boats have pulled people out of tree tops as swiftly moving waters threaten to sweep them away. Low-lying roads have become potential rivers and residents are cautioned to avoid traveling.
“You couldn’t see the bridge at all. You couldn’t see his vehicle. It was completely overrun with water.”
