A 5.7 temblor struck the San Diego County area at 9:38 p.m. Monday evening. The quake was felt throughout San Diego. More than a dozen aftershocks were reported. three of them were between 4.0 and 4.5.

Signon San Diego says, “The quake occurred more than 100 miles east of San Diego. But through 10:50 p.m., hundreds of people in the city went on to the USGS website to report that they felt the shaking.”

The USGS site keeps an updated map of earthquakes. The number of them that appear daily is almost as scary as the magnitude of the larger ones.

The quake caused a pause in a Blue Jays-Padres game. Seattle Times says, “Play stopped momentarily in the eighth inning of Monday night’s Toronto Blue Jays-San Diego Padres game as Petco Park swayed during an earthquake.”

“David Eckstein had just grounded out in the bottom of the inning when the stadium began shaking. The next batter, Chase Headley, stayed out of the batter’s box for a few seconds, then stepped in. The public address announced asked that everyone remain calm. The crowd cheered.”
