The league position for Barca is already decided. They’ll remain second regardless of this game’s outcome. However, Betis will rank between eleven and fourteen depending on the result of this game.
The importance of this game doesn’t lie in its result but in the fact that this is Pep Guardiola’s last game as Barca’s Coach. He has served as the manager of the club for four seasons, from 2008-09 to 2011-12.
During this time, Barca has won three league titles and two Champions League titles among a total of thirteen trophies that he has won for his team. Barca is the runners up in La Liga this season after three consecutive titles. In European competitions, Barca has managed to reach the semifinals in the two years it couldn’t manage to lift the trophy. Overall, it has been a period of unbelievable success for Barcelona. This game will have the honor of bidding farewell to this legendary coach.
Barca comes into this game with a 4-0 victory over Espanyol in their previous league game. Messi has already reached a monumental 50 La Liga goals and overall 72 goals this season. He will look to extend this tally further in dedication to his mentor at the club, Pep Guardiola.
Real Betis are also on a good run, with five unbeaten games preceding this one. Although they have managed to score regularly, they have only two clean sheets in the last 14 games.
