The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play the Pune Warriors at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 5, 2012. Eden Gardens will stage the (kkr vs pw) 47th encounter of the Indian Premier League 2012.

The atmosphere for this game is expected to be charged. Not because of the two teams, their rivalry or the stage the tournament has entered. But because of one man: Sourav Ganguly. He will be returning to his home, where he is revered to a level comparable to Tendulkar’s in Mumbai.

There is a chance that the fans might cheer the away side like they did in 2005 when Ganguly was dropped from India’s team against South Africa. The situation is similar but Ganguly’s form isn’t. It’ll be interesting to see how the fans react.

Ganguly and his current team are facing a slump in form. The Warriors have lost six of the last seven games played and Ganguly has managed to score only 211 runs in eleven innings so far at an average of about 19 runs.

The home team, on the other hand, has won it’s last four games in a row. They have the second most economical bowler of IPL 2012 in the form of SP Narine and the fifth highest run scorer in the form of Gautam Gambhir. Overall, they have been the most economical bowling side this year, with an economy rate of 6.79 runs per over.

However, KKR needs to concentrate on its batting. Their star batsman, Jacques Kallis has been out of form. He is among the players with worst batting strike rate this year. The Warriors have a decent bowling attack, which has given away the fourth least runs in the tournament.
