Houston Rocket's star Yao Ming was blasted for not getting his priorities right.
"No matter how lofty public welfare activities are, they can't be allowed to take first place in a player's life," said the China Sports Daily.
Yao was late freporting for training with the Chinese national team because he made public appearances for the Special Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
"No matter how sweet personal life is, it can't be compared to the exultation of capturing glory for one's nation," the article also said.
Yao also spent a lot of time planning for
his upcoming wedding.
I wonder if the China Sports Daily people know that Yao's future wife, Ye Li also reads Chinese. I'd like to see them tell her to her face that her husband's basketball practice comes first.
China's national team is building their Olympic preparations around Yao Ming. By this time next year, Yi Jianlian is expected to be a big part of the team as well…IF he can find a place to play.
What the Chinese national basketball center director needs to learn and learn super fast is that if Yao's future wife ain't happy, Yao ain't gonna be happy. And that makes a big difference on the basketball court.
