There are more than 1,000,000 skilled immigrant workers – scientists, engineers, doctors and researchers competing for 120,000 permanent U.S. resident visas each year says the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. What that means is that some skilled workers will be forced to return home creating a 'brain-drain' in the United States. The contributions of foreign nationals have a measurable impact on United States Intellectual Property Foreign nationals had a part in more than half of the international patents filed by multi-national companies such as: 1. Qualcomm (72%) 2. Merck & Co. (65%) 3. General Electric (64%) 4. Siemens (63%) 5. Cisco (60%) Over two in five patents filed by the U.S. government had foreign nationals as inventors or co-inventors. It might be argued that whenever someone goes back home, That is true…but many processes must be started over again. Then again…fresh blood can also mean new ideas.
