Oscar Pistorius – Beijing Games Fastest Man with or without Legs

Posted by Bill Belew on June 1st, 2008 in PanAsianBiz | No Comments

Oscar Pistorius is just 21-years old.

He is a university student at the University of Pretoria.

He is also very likely to be a member of the 1,600-meter South African relay squad.

And, if Oscar has his way, he will be competing on his own in the 400-meter race.

His best time over 400 meters is 46.56. The Olympic qualifying standard is 45.55.

Oscar, however, has no legs. He runs on carbon fiber blades attached below his knees.

FOUL! – It's a mechanical advantage says the IAAF.

FAIR! – Says the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the sport's highest tribunal. The decision was unanimous.

Oscar is going to run and compete against the able bodied athletes at the Beijing Games this year.

And, whether he wins or loses in Beijing, he'll be 25-years old, a whole lot stronger, much more seasoned and totally ready for the 2012 Games in London.

What's keeping you from chasing your dreams?

while its nice sentiment, the chances he’ll be running on his own are slim and none, though it is quite likely South Africa will put him on the relay team for the publicity boost.
