The Modern Olympics go back a long way – to Athens 1896.

The star in '96 – Spyridon Louis, a Greek, that the hosts wanted by all means to win, because he was their runner in the marathon race.

By all means, except cheating, steroids and all that of course.

Spyridon didn't disappoint.

He took the lead about 4kms, (2.5 miles) from the finish and wom the race by more than 7 minutes in front of 100,000 spectors.

What's your favorite Olympic event?
