士 shi 别 bie 三 san 日 ri 当 dang 刮 gua 目 mu 相 xiang 看 kan – After three days, a gentleman is viewed with new eyes.
There was a man who didn't quite measure up to the standards set by the general over him.
The general exhorted him to study hard, to follow the examples of others who had succeeded.
After a time, a new commander came upon the man only to be impressed by the knowledge he gained.
The man responded that after three days of separation, a person should be looked at anew.
Now it means that a person shouldn't be judged by old standards and be given a chance to prove themselves again.
