Largest Pirated DVD Laboratory Smashed in Hong Kong
Customs officials smashed the largest DVD burning laboratory this year – 64,000 pirated discs – in Hong Kong.
The raid took place on seven DVD shops, seven street hawkers and a laboratory with 97 DVD-R burners.
Pirated versions of Chinese, American and Japanese movies and TV shows turned up said the Motion Picture Association.
The retail value of the DVDS – $258K.
The lab had the potential of 5 million pirated DVDs each year and $13 million in revenue.
Shops were busted, too.
"These crooks were not only cheating the owners of the pirated movies, but were also cheating consumers into spending their hard-earned cash on what they thought were legitimate movies," said the GM of nternational Federation Against Copyright Theft — Greater China.
One small step for cracking down….but it is a step.
Do you think pirating can be brought under control?
