Introducing Chinese Cars – Geely

Posted by Bill Belew on April 16th, 2006 in PanAsianBiz | No Comments

The Geely, pronounced Jee-lee was the first independent car produced in China.

Geely started out as a manufacturer of refrigerators. They then turned the box over and put wheels on it….somewhere in between, they developed motorcycle parts and then motorcyles and then finally went on to cars.

By, 1994, Geely had sold nearly 100,000 vehicles, abt 4% of the Chinese market at that time.

But now have their sites on the overseas market…including the United States.

According to their web site they have at least 7 models.

At a post in AManWalksIntoAnOffice we might see what the, um, experts might say of Geely’s chances.

What do you think is the possibility of seeing Chinese cars puttering around the US before long?

I read this post at China Car Forums. It seems Geely is planning to launch a car in the US in 2008 with a sticker price of $7500.

I wonder if the buyer will “get what s/he pays for.”
