How to teach 15 million people to stand in line
On the eleventh of every month, China holds a 'standing in line' day in an effort to teach its residents some manners.
For four months now, Beijing has been reminding its residence on the 11th of each month to stand in line rather than wrestle, fight, cut in and push their way to the front.
It's part of the city's effort to improve the city's image leading up to the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
Not only people, but cars and their drivers are reminded to wait their turn.
I can remember the closest time I came to clobbering someone in China.
My friend and I waited patiently in line to buy tickets for the train.![]()
People kept cutting in at the front until we finally got to the ticket window. 3-4 fellows jumped in front of my female friend and started demanding first service.
Holy cow…there are times when size is an advantage.
I can't beat myself out of a wet paper bag…more of a lover than a fighter – that sort of thing.
But the 4 people backed off post haste this one time.
We got our tickets and headed for the train.
Beijing has its work cut out if they want to teach all 15 million how to line up. They should have started back in 2001 when they received the Olympic bid.
Do you sometimes cut in line?
