For whatever reason, the tourist loosens his/her purse strings while out and about, then fights to pay off the credit card bill long after they get home.
Question – How much money can 6.5 million tourists spend? in China? 382,000 of them from abroad?
What’s 382,000 x $2,000 just to get to the Middle Kingdom?
Five-star hotels were occupied at around 81% = 80,000 guests each day spending $525/room/day.
What is 17 days x 80,000 x $525?

Beijing received 6.5 million tourists during the Olympic Games. The city spend a bundle…but they raked some in, too…and will be enjoying a windfall for quite some time.
How much do you spend when you go on vacation?
I usually don’t spend more than 1,000 euro for a 2 weeks vacation. And that usually includes 7 days in an all inclusive hotel at the seaside then some 3-4 days in a new city I’ve never visited.
