Global Warming vs. Beijing 2008 Games Olympic Torch

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 17 May 2007No Comment

China will set up more weather stations on Mt. Everest to monitor global warming and cooling, I suppose, to prepare for an expedition that hopes to take the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games Torch to the summit.

Altogether, six observatories are planned…four down, two to go. The stations will give hourly updates and short 15, 30 minute summaries.

After the games…the stations will also help study long-term climate change in the area.

The observatories will be located between Base Camp (5,200 meter – 17,060') and (6,200 meters – 20,340').

And the torch won't blow out because of what reason?

Still, I think it is plenty cool that in this day and age people/countries will attempt such marvelous challenges.

What's the highest mountain you have ever climbed?

I've been up Fuji-san three timees, 3,700+ meters.
