Dalai Lama Refused Entry Visa to South Korea
South Korea doesn't want to mess with China's 'internal politics.'
The Dalai Lama is not welcomed. An entry visa will NOT be issue to the Dalai Lama.
Seoul is concerned with the possible repercussions from Beijing which considers the Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader, a renegade.
China says Tibet wants independence, the Dalai Lama says full autonomy is a possible compromise.
I ask…what's a spiritual leader doing messing around in politics?
This is the third time the Dalai Lama was rejected by Seoul, 2000 and 2001, also.
Religious leaders from the Buddhist, Catholic and Protestant communities want him to visit as a symbol of peace amid warming inter-Korean relations.
I ask again…what's spiritual leaders doing messing around in politics?
Seoul wants Beijing's help in dealing with North Korea, their neighbor. Tibet is far away and of little consequence to South Korea.
It make sense that Seoul would try to get along with Beijing, I think.
What do you think?
