Christmas in Asia – Celebrating in Taiwan
Christmas in Asia – Celebrating in Taiwan
In Taiwan, Christmas is not an official holiday, nor is it legally recognized.
However, by coincidence, December 25th is a holiday.
It is the date of the signing of the Constitution of the Republic of China in 1947, or officially the Constitution Day.
The day was designated an official holdiday in 1963 and now it is largely, though unofficially, treated as if it were Christmas.
In 2001 Constitution Day ceased being a full legal holiday because Taiwan was phasing in a two-day-off-per-week plan.
Though December 25th has ceased to be a holiday, there are still unofficial celebrations of Christmas.
How will you celebrate Christmas?
