China Gets Traffic Jam Info for Car Navigation Systems Via Nissan
Nissan Motor Co. will partner with city governments in China to provide real-time traffic information for car navigation systems.
Easy enough…just put it on traffic jam.
Nissan wants to:
1. help ease chronic traffic congestion
2. reduce air pollution
3. increase sales
especially number three.
Nissan is testing the service with the Beijing Transportation Information Center (BTIC).
BTIC gets info from the cities 10,000 some taxis…the major source of traffic
congestion?
So far, tests have shown that time on the road can be reduced by an average of 20%. Instead of an hour to get somewhere…think…48 minutes….and extra time needed to find a parking place because you are early.
Toyota is also planning to bring its G-Book telematics service to China.
Would you change your route or time of driving because your car navigation system told you to?
Beijing wants to do anything to ease traffic leading up to the 2008 Summer Games.
