Beijing 2008 Summer Games Springboard to other Asian Destinations
Almost 90% of the people who plan to attend the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games plan to visit another city or cities in China or another Asian destination.
Granted, for most of us, Beijing is pretty far out of the way…and if you are going to make the trip, why not make it worthwhile.
Three of four people say they plan to visit Hong Kong (do they know it's a four hour or more flight from Beijing…not exactly on the way?) or Singapore (much farther.)
Some will stop in Japan on the way there or back. Not a bad idea. You can get off the plane in Narita and back on at a later date. And the air fare will not change substantially.
China is now one of the five most popular destinations for tourists heading to Asia.
Beijing expects 4.5 million tourists in 2008. Tourism has grown by 7% per year since 2001, the year it was selected for the 2008 Olympic Games.
The amount of money tourists are expected to spend….a whopping $4.5 billion.
And we wonder no more, why China/Beijing wanted to host the Olympic games.
Next up…London 2012.
Will you be going to the games?
