500 days to go…and now the athletes can start working on visualizing what it is that will be hung around their neck.

BOCOG has unveiled the medals for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on the day that marks 500 more to go.

The design was chosen on after reveiwing 265 entries "from 25 provinces (municipalities, and autonomous regions) and Hong Kong Special Administration Region (SAR) of China, America, Australia, Russian and Germany."

When Carl Lewis was asked how he felt after winning his fourth gold medal, he responded, "I did it many many times in practice before I did it today."

To be sure, athletes from around the world will start imagining these medals being placed around their necks, while tears stream and their national athem is played.
