$500-750 Million Set Aside for 3G Mobile Phone Growth

Later this year, Octoberish, China will tender contracts worth 4-6 billion yuan (523-785 million) for handsets based on the homegrown 3G mobile phone standard.

China Mobile is the world's largest wireless character and they need 2 million handsets based on the TD-SCDMA (time division synchronous code division multiple access) standard.

Some eighteen companies are expected to bid for contracts –  

Shenzhen-based ZTE Corp.china.3g.mobile.phone.jpg

Huawei Technologies

Datang Telecom Technology

Samsung Electronics

LG Electronics

Motorola

Haier Electronics Group Co.

are a few of them.

The network gear orders are expected to be worth $10 billion.

The 2008 Olympics are the deadline…China wants to be able to offer high-quality broadband Web access for visitors for that event.
