5 Reasons MLB is Eyeing China for Spring Training in 2007

Submitted by Bill Belew on Sunday, 3 June 2007No Comment

The dog days of summer or not here yet. And spring training? Well, it just finished.

Still there is talk in the offices of Major League Baseball about next year's spring training …and whether or not games will be played in China.

1. MLB wants part of that 1.3 billion potential sports fans.

2. MLB wants a baseball version of Yao Ming.

3. MLB wants to play next year because of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games – it will be the last year for baseball and softball to be played in the Olympics. The sportMLB.china.jpg was voted out for the 2012 London Summer Games. Maybe they can make a comeback for the 2016 Games.

4. MLB wants to build some momentum early leading up to the 2010 World Baseball Classic.

5. MLB wants to be as popular as the NBA is in China.

Baseball has caught on in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Do you think it has a chance in China?
