Progress at Sony Despite the Sony Chip

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 11 May 2006No Comment

Six months ago, Sony was expected to lose nearly $1 billion dollars last year. Instead they made MORE THAN $1.1 billion.

I am sure somebody was happy about the prediction being off, don’t you think?

Sony is still making serious money in camcorders, personal computers and a new television they have introduced. But they are not making as much money as they would like. $1.1 billion wouldn’t be enough for me either.

Maybe it’s the Sony Chip. A Japanese friend of mine tells me that Sony products are notorious for breaking down just outside their warranty period. He told me stories of friends who’s Vaio PC broke down within hours of its expired warranty. No kidding.

Sony has two movies coming out this year that are expected to add black to its bottom line – "The Da Vinci Code" (They will NOT be making any money off of me on that.) and the new Bond flick – "Casino Royale. " I won’t be seing that one either.

Question: How much of that $1.1 billion profit did Sony get from you?  Don’t forget the games when you calculate your contribution.
