Due to heavy overnight rains normal life was thrown out of gear in Mumbai on tuesday july 14th which led to severe water logging in many parts of Mumbai and badly disrupted road, railway and air traffic.
The Mithi river crossed the danger level mark of 2.7 metre at around 3.15 pm, following which the Navy had been placed on high alert and residents were being evacuated from the nearby area of Kurla in surburban Mumbai.
Several low lying areas including Sion, King’s circle and Hind Mata in central Mumbai; Andheri, Juhu, Santacruz, Milan subway, Khar Subway and the shopping area of Linking Road were inundated as of 4.30.
“31 mm rainfall was recorded in the eastern suburbs since morning and 175 mm rainfall was recorded around Kurla that is why Mithi river had risen to 3.1 level, however, it levels came down th 2.7 metre,” Manish Meskar, the head of Disaster Managemnt Centre, BMC said
According to Mumbai International Airport Limited, visibility at the airport has been reduced to 800 ft. Incoming flights were delayed by 15 minutes while the departure of the flights was more or less on time.
Several trees were also uprooted due to strong winds in the city.
The weather bureau predicted frequent spells of heavy to very heavy rains with strong winds will continue.
