Maharashtra Day is celebrated  on May 1 in Maharashtra, a very important state on western coast of India. Maharashtra attained statehood on 1st of May, 1960 when the then state Saurashtra was divided into two states,

The Indian Stock markets BSE and NSE will remain closed on Friday (May 1) on account of Maharashtra Day
