Lunar Eclipse – 2009

The 1st lunar eclipse of the year 2009 will occur on February 9th, 2009. The eclipse comes exactly 11 days after the 1st solar eclipse of this year.
It is said that this will be the deepest eclipse of the year with a magnitude of 0.899.
It will be easily visible to the naked eye as a dusky shading in the northern half of the Moon.
The times of the major phases of the Lunar Eclipse in India are :

The eclipse is visible from India. People in East Europe, Asia, Australia, Pacific, in Western parts of North America will also witness the eclipse.
The penumbras lunar eclipse begins at 6:08 pm IST and ends at 10:08 .
Mr Raghunandan Kumar, Founder and Secretary of the Planetry Society of India, says the maximum covering of the moon while passing through Penumbra (lighter shadow of earth) will occur at 8:08 pm. At that time 90 per cent of the moon will be under the lighter shadow (Penumbra) of Earth.
The perfect time to view this beautiful sight is between 7.30 pm and 8.50 pm when people can view changes in the color of the moon.
In Alaska, the eclipse begins at 03:38:46 and ends at 07:37:40. The greatest eclipse is felt at 05:38:15(local time)
In Hawaii the eclipse begins at 02:38:46 and ends at 06:37:40. The greatest eclipse is felt during 04:38:15 (local time)
In Sydney, Australia the eclipse begins at 23:38:46 and ends at 03:37:40. The greatest eclipse is felt during 01:38:15 (local time)
