Indian Lok Sabha Election 2009 in 5 Phases between April 16-May 13
India will hold its Lok Sabha general elections to the 15th Lok Sabha in 5 phases on April 16, April 23, April 30, May 7 and May 13, 2009.
The Chief Election Commissioner of India N Gopalaswami in a press conference today announced the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He said that the new Lok Sabha will be constituted before June 2, 2009.
According to the Election Commission, about 714 million voters will participate in these elections. About 21 lakh policemen will be deployed for security.
N Gopalaswami said, "A total of 499 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats have been newly delimited." The commission also said photo electoral rolls will be used in 522 constituencies.

I am a Bengalee & 15th April is the Bengali New Year’s Day. I m a also a govt. Service Holder. I cann’t enjoy the day when I will busy in Election Matters. For Assamese People also 15th April is their “Rongali Bihu”. So, the CEC can change the date?

Sir, according to my view biometric card (thumb impression ) should be introduced to protect from proxy voting .EVM machines should be given fire wall to protect the voting system completely fullproof.
