The Anil Kapoor productions film “Shortkut – The Con is On” is the remake of the  famous Malayalam flick ‘Udayananu Tharam’  staring  Mohanlal with Sreenivasan.

The original film is too good  with Mohanlal in the lead role of the struggling film director whose story is stolen by Sreenivasan.

Short kut is actually a entertaining tale of scam, deceit, super stardom and the subsequent fall.

It is a story of the trials and troubles of two artists, a struggling director and an actor, and the weird situations faced by both in the pursuit of their tinsel town dreams.

Shekhar (Akshaye Khanna), an aspiring assistant director and Chandu (Arshad Warsi), whose dream is to be a hero, meet each other while struggling to make it in the film industry. While Shekhar is completely gifted and confident, Chandu is a comic character and a non actor who thinks he is God’s gift to Bollywood!

Chandu steals the prized script of Shekhar and is projected to super stardom. After this incident, Shekhar is completely dejected and depressed. This causes his wife Mansi (Amrita Rao) to leave him. The completely broken Shekhar waits for a chance to avenge Chandu.

Akshaye Khanna has not been able to do justice to the role of Shekhar which has been depicted by Mohanlal in the original version. If the earlier cast of this movie had been retained, Anil Kapoor could have done some more justice to the role of Shekhar.
So this movie is a just-watchable -one.
