“Aiyya” movie review and box office report
Bollywood movie “Aiyya” that released on Oct 12, 2012 had generated a
good buzz and two songs ‘Dreamum wakeupam’ and ‘Aga bai’. Rani Mukerji
has returned to the box-office after a year. Her last movie was with
director Rajkumar Gupta’s critically acclaimed movie “No One Killed
Jessica” in 2011.
Rani Mukerji is now returning to the silver screen with “Aiyyaa” as a
Marathi girl Meenakshi Deshpande who falls in love with a Tamil actor
Surya (Prithviraj Sukumaran). The movie is produced by Anurag Kashyap
and Viacom 18 as joint production and directed by Sachin Kundalkar.
The movie opened to mixed reviews with some calling it gaudy and
over-the-top. But critics were unanimous in hailing Rani’s
performance. Rani Mukerji is praised for keeping the viewers engaged
with her unabashed performance. While Times of India gave 2.5 stars
out of 5, Rediff gave only 1 and NDTV gave 3 stars out of 5. DNA
review states that there is something that works in favour of Aiyyaa
as it slips into the category of mindless comedy without crossing the
line into idiocy like other rom-coms.
