Salman Khan from exempted from appearing in court in hit-and-run case
A Metropolitan court in Bandra, Mumbai exempted Bollywood actor Salman Khan from appearing before the court in connection with the 2002 hit-and-run case.
A complaint had been lodged against the actor and the police alleging the trial being delayed deliberately for which the court had asked Salman Khan to appear in-person.
Salman pleaded that he was not responsible for the trial delay and sought dismissal of the complaint. Salman’s lawyer argued that the Bombay High Court had already granted Salman Khan permanent exemption on June 10, 2005, but the actor would appear before the court if directed.
The complainant had alleged that the trial was delayed by four years because of the actor’s busy film schedule and the actor had connived with police to delay the trial producing wrong set of witnesses.
Salman maintained that the delay in the trial was not because of him. The court has a reply from the police and adjourned the case till January 30.
