Samsung Develops LCD Using Plain Window/Mirror Glass
Samsung Electronics has developed a liquid-crystal-display (LCD) panel that uses plain old glass…the kind used in windows and mirrors instead of the more expensive glass substrate.
Samsung will be able to go shopping now for cheaper glass suppliers and reduce its LCD TV and monitor prices…meaning the consumer wins!
There are only a few companies able to make the special high-endurance glass substrate used in LCD panels.
Samsung Corning Precision Glass, a joint venture of United States' Corning and Korea's Samsung Electronics has an 80% market share.
LCDs are used in:
1. flat-panel TVs,
2. computer monitors,
3. laptop screens,
4. mobile phone screens
and thanks to Samsung, they are going to get cheaper.
Good news for us buyers, eh?
