Suzuki’s Compact, Low-Emission Hatchback – made in India for the World
Suzuki Motor Corp has a new compact hatchback that will be manufactured in India and sold all over the world.
Suzuki wants India to be the company's export hub.
Suzuki also wants to maintain its majority share in the Indian market.
"Our next world car will be made in India," says Suzuki's CEO.
Production will begin in the fall of 2008.
The car is expected to be a one-liter car that meets stringent pollution control rules and keep carbon emissions lower than European cars.
And cheap….price has not been disclosed.
The car has a name – A-Star.
Suzuki has a a 54% stake in Maruti, India's largest carmaker, which has a 54% market share in India.
The JV wants to make 150,000 cars a year, one third of which will be exported.
The car is unique in that Maruti Suzuki's R & D division in India has been involved from the beginning.
Suzuki is apt to win/keep many friends in India by involving the country in this venture, no?
