Suzuki Wants Indian Dominance

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 5 March 2007No Comment

Suzuki Motor Co. has more than half the market share of four-wheeled vehicles in India…not four-wheel drive vehicles…cars, autos, that sort of thing.

But…Indians drive motorcycles at a six to one ratio and the first vehicle of choice for new drivers is the motorcycle. If they only knew it was easier and safer to drive a vehicle with four wheels than one with two.

Suzuki wants some of that two-wheel action.  suzuki.india.jpg

Suzuki's Indian motorcyle plant, with its army of 14 welding robots that were made in Japan, and 11 that were built in India, plans to start rolling out 150cc-engine motorcycles and automatic transimission scooters.

Suzuki has just a 1% market share in the two-wheelers far far behind Honda's 40% share. But…if they (Indians) love our cars, then they will surely love our bikes as well…is not a bad philosophy to build on.

What do you think, can Suzuki catch market leader Honda in motorbikes?
