Tycoon, Handsome, Beauty, Foreigner…Banned from Marriage Ads

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 18 October 2007No Comment

There are new rules out for finding marriage partners in China when placing ads in the newspaper.

Don't tell what it is you are looking for.

Can'd want a tycoon….try asking for someone who is not poor at all.

Can want a beauty….try asking for the non-ulgy.

Can't want a handsome man….try….okay, you have the idea.

Can't want a foreigner.

Ads for travel companions are out.

Ads for adoptions are out.

Ads in non-approved media outlets are out.

One strike, a warning.

Two strikes, a suspension.

Three strikes, shut down.

It seems to me that it's not practical to say which words can't be used. There are too many words that can be used or words that will imply the same thing, no?

How can or should marriage ads be regulated?
