Retailers Hope to Cash in on “Golden Week”

America needs something like a "Golden Week."

Most everybody gets the week off except for retailers and, I guess, everybody who wants to cater to those who have the week off…which could mean a whole lot of people would be working anyway. Oh, well.

China's National Day began today.

New stores opened…shopping centers cut prices…products are remixed for travelers.

In Shanghai -

The new shopping mall, Infiniti Lifestyle Center – conducts advanced trial operations

Thai owned Lotus Supermarket chain – a Thai food festival in its 20 stores

Shanghai Oriental Shopping Center – new brands like Switzerland's La Prairie skin-care line, and IWC watches

Sales can double during Golden Week compared to a normal weekly haul.

Consumers also feel inflation coming and are inclined to buy now.

Shanghai alone is expecting more than 4 million tourists to visit.

Last year, retail sales at Shanghai's 358 medium and large retailers jumped 21.4 percent. The year before, sales were up 8%.

This year…how about 8% + 21%.

Week long holidays…people have nothing else to do so they spend money.

We need more of that in the United States, no?
