Mobile Users Top 515 Million

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 4 October 2007No Comment

There are 515 million mobile phone users in China as of the end of August – a montly rise of 6.8 million.

They signed up at a pace of about 3 new contracts every second – 24/7.

China's cell phone users sent 387.5 billion short text messages by the end of August – nearly 20,000/sec – 24/7 if my math is right. The figure is up 38.3%.

Even China's rural areas are seeing a continuing demand for cell phones.

During the first eight months, China produced 347.6 million handsets, up 28% over last year.  china.mobile.phone.sale.jpg

Fixed lines stayed the same but revenue of the country's post and telecommunications services reached $62.5 billion U.S. dollars in the first eight months this year.

There is still time to get in on the mobile phone business…China has 800 million people that still do NOT have one.

How many mobile phones have you had?
