Microsoft Buys into China TV Giant Changhong Electric
Microsoft is getting into the television business….television making business, not programming.
Microsoft will pay 94.05 million yuan to buy 15 million shares of China's Sichuan Changhong Electric, one of the biggest on the mainland.
Changhong wants money to develop its plasma display panel production line.
Microsoft wants to cooperate in products that connect televisions with computers and the Internet.
Microsoft already gets along quite well with another Chinese
computer making giant, Lenovo. Why not with the television makers as well?
Changhong and Microsoft have a three year old agreement to cooperate in the field of multimedia.
I wonder…would I want to surf the web on my TV? There's definitely nothing worth watching.
