DHL Waffles Between Shanghai and Incheon
The German logistics giant DHL is waffling between Shanghai and the South Korean city, Incheon, on where to place its seventh regional hub and spend several hundreds of millions of dollars doing so.
DHL's prez of Greater China and South Korea says a decision will be made within the next two months.
China's 35% annual growth rate for DHL makes the country totally appealing.
DHL's major competitor, UPS already announced it will establish a hub, its fourth in the Asia-Pacific region, with an investment of $20 million.![]()
Fedex will open a China regional hub in Hangzhou.
DHL was the first foreign firm to launch domestic services in China.
One team player for DHL is the NBA. NBA has 18 marketing partners in China. NBA and DHL have partnered for at least three years to "ship equipment like professional floors and backboards for NBA games in the region."
The two will also ship the NBA trophy for a tour of Asia in '07 and '08.
DHL, no doubt, wants to ship much more than a trophy and backboards for the United States and other countries.
