Chinese Overseas Students Pay for Studies Themselves – Poor Babies!

Submitted by Bill Belew on Tuesday, 6 March 2007No Comment

Some 134,000 Chinese students went overseas in 2006 - 47.5% to study social sciences and 45% to study engineering and technology.

This is more than 11 times the number of students just five years ago.

Of that number, about 90% of them had to pay for their studies themselves. Indeed…poor babies.

But, with the resources the Chinese have, the costs can seem a bit more formidable. However, when you consider that each Chinese student going overseas has six adults, count 'em, six adults supporting him/her…it becomes doable.

Why six? Because of China's one child policy…each kid has a mom and dad, of course, and two sets of grand parents devoted to their success. That's six working adults who can give them money for their studies.

Not so poor after all, eh?

The most popular majors for Chinese students:

1. administration

2. finance

3. computer science

Last year, 33,400 Chinese students returned home from overseas to work. The more students that return home…the more students that will likely come and the looser the visa restrictions will become for prospective students.

What do you think of that Chinese person sitting next to you and acing all the exams?

Oh…and who pays for your education?

They are poor babies, however, if most of them have a part-time job or can allocate their study and work effectively, they will not that “poor”.
