China will help with Toyota Goal of 1.5 million Corollas in 2008
Toyota Motor Corp. wants to manufacture 1.5 million Corolla sedans and wagons globally next year….up 200,000 from this year…and two times its rivals…VW's AG's Golf, and Honda Civic. compact car.
Making more will also help bring/keep the price down.
China will help out.
In Tianjin, China a new factory capable of 200,000 units will open in May next year.
China will also be a target market for those additional 200,000
cars. For Y5 billion Toyota will add to a Prius plant in Japan an assembly line that will manufacture 50,000 Corolla sedans for Europe.
In South Africa Corolla capacity grew last year from 130,000 to 220,000 with Europe in mind.
VW's Golf and Honda Motor Co's Civic are the Corolla's biggest competitors …yet together (700,000 each)Toyota will outsell them both. with its new target of 1.5 million.
My older son has a Corolla, the younger a Civic.
