China to Skip One Phone Generation?

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 25 October 2007No Comment

ABN Amro Holdings NV says it might make sense for China to skip one phone generation…from 2G to 4G.

"It makes sense for China to go directly to 4G as it may offer better returns on investments," says ABN Amro's head.

It can cost $20 billion to build networks for 3G services allowing faster downloads of music and video onto mobile phones.

But, 4G phone services will offer speeds 14 times faster than 3G…or 200 megabits per second.

Investments for 4G phones are expected to start in 2010. 4g.concept.phone.jpg

Nah….Chinese mobile phone makers will NOT want its 500+ million cell phone users to skip a generation of new handset buying…no way!

After everyone buys a new 3G handset…then and only then will the move toward 4G phones happen.

What do you think?
