Carrefour vs. Wal-Mart

Carrefour is France's answer to the American giant Walmart Inc.

The new president of Carrefour China says the company will open 20 new branches this year at a cost of about 150 million euros.

The focus of the company will remain in Beijing and Shanghai, but medium and small sized cities will still see development.carrefour.jpg

A medium sized city in China is still around 5 million…and small is one million people or more.

Carrefour first set up shop in China in 1995 and currently has 92 branches + 20 this year = 112.

Wal-mart has 73 stores in China and plans to open 50 more this year = 123.

But more stores in China does NOT always equal more customers, more money.

Carrefour vs. Wal-Mart?

Who do you think will win?
