Banking on Clean Energy in China
Hainan Province in China is banking on clean energy. Can you say "wind power?"
The province is building a 120 megawatt (mW) wind power plant – 33 wind turbines with 1.5 mW each that once completed will generate 103 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity each year.
This project is just one for the process.
1. hydropower
2. wind power
3. solar power
4. boimass power
5. nuclear power
Within two years, the province wants 13,000 mW of power capacity.
When completed, 35,000 tons of coal equivalent each year will be saved.
Huaneng Group is the developer. The group is developing wind power plants in Guangdong, Jilin, Shandong and Inner Mongolia.
Huaneng is the only one of China's five major power companies China Datang Corp, China Guodian Corp, China Huadian Corp, China Power Investment Corp to post gains in the first three months of the year.
Hmm…clean energy and profits. Good formula for long term success.
