Baidu Hi To Challenge Tencent’s QQ

Submitted by Bill Belew on Sunday, 9 March 2008No Comment

Baidu.com is testing its new IM product "Baidu Hi."

Only Baidu employees can use it now.

Only one other company cares about it – Shenzhen based Tencent, which runs QQ.

QQ platform holds about 80% of China's IM industry.

Tencent has 580 million registered users and earned Y1 billion in the 3Q last year by providing Internet value added services.

White collar workers in China use MS's MSN.

Nobody expects Baidu to make an immediate impact on the IM market.

But, 2-3 years from now, it may be a different story.

Since 2005, Baidu has been growing annually at 100%. In the future, Baidu Hi will help add to that growth.

Or will it?

Do we really need another IM service?

anything that is clean without any commercials will be welcomed. I don’t believe baidu Hi will be a better choice. Not to mention it is just copying from MSN, even the default design…
