Top Five Countries Contributing to Website Domain total of 100,000,000

Submitted by Bill Belew on Friday, 3 November 2006No Comment

Netcraft based in Bath England started tracking the number of websites in 1995 when there were just 18,000.

It took nine years for the number to reach 50,000,000 and then 2.5 years to get the next 50,000,000.

The top five countries with web domains are:

1. United States

2. Germany

3. China

4. South Korea

5. Japan

Only 47 or 48 million are said to be active.

The fuel for the growth is bloggers, small businesses and simplicity.

Nowadays, having a website is as necessary as having a business card, phone number and an e-mail address.

How about you?

Do you think it is necessary to have a web domain? Myspace, Cyworld or otherwise?
