Time’s World’s 100 Most Influential – Ma Jun

Posted by Bill Belew on May 9th, 2006 in China | No Comments

China has three heroes – Yao Ming, Zhang Ziyi and Ma Jun. Most people know the first two but don’t even have a clue who the third one is – even Chinese don’t know him.

I didn’t know him until he showed up on TIME list of the World’s 100 most influential people.

Ma wrote China’s Water Crisis,  a call to arms of sort to combat China’s abuse of its environment.

Ma is a young fellow at 38. Yet he is taking on the one party state apparatus.

Ma was a journalist turned environmental advocate and now he is a powerful voice sounding the alarm the consequences that may occur as a result of the great economic growth.

And they, the party, are listening. That can be good for all of us.

What do you think?

I don’t believe any thing can satisfy the human thirst for better future. We work hard, and some fight, but is it enough? Tomorrow will tell.
