Microsoft Offers to Buy Out Yahoo and Google!!!

Submitted by Bill Belew on Saturday, 1 April 2006No Comment

One of the benefits of living in Silicon Valley is that we are often privvy to news about the big search engines and other companies long before the news goes mainstream.

One of the disadvantages is that many people have spent their days doing whatever and some have already gone to bed and awakened to start another day before we even get up.

I often call my son in Japan and ask him, how is the weather TOMORROW. He already knows.

I am no doubt late in getting this news out, but I want to weigh in my two cents.

Last night there was a press conference held jointly by Microsoft, Google and Yahoo.

We were dumbfounded, I got in on a press pass as a representative of KnowMoreMedia, by the announcement. And it came right after Yahoo Japan soared 7.6% after announcing an alliance with Sumitomo Bank in Japan.  And after Google announced it was going to buy into AOL. Google also announced it was going to sell 5.3 million more shares of its stock.

Microsoft offered to buyout Google and Yahoo. And both Google and Yahoo accepted the offer.  $30 billion is a lot of money. I might be bought out for that much money…. uh..nah..maybe not.

The past couple of days I wrote about Chinese sensorship of the Net and how MSN and Yahoo have complied. I wonder now, what difference this buyout will make.

I wonder what difference it will make in a lot of areas?

What do you think?

In Japan we have a phrase for this – shigatsu no hajime no baka. Roughly translated it means stupidity at the beginning of the fourth month.
