Committee of 100

Submitted by Bill Belew on Friday, 21 April 2006No Comment

The Committee Of 100 is holding their 15th Annual Conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco. It started today and will go until Saturday.

As Chinese President Hu Jintao makes his first official visit to the US the Committee of 100 (actually there are 140 members) is holding a conference "America and China: A View From the Bridge."

There are many prominent speakers and panel participants – Frank Wu, Dean of Wayne State University Law School, Jack Ma, Founder and CEO of  Aibaba , Charlene Barshefsky, Former US Trade Representative; and Yang Yuanqing, Chariman, Lenovo .

This year’s keynote speakers are Senator Dianne Feinstein, Terry Semel, Chairman & CEO, Yahoo, and Morris Chany, Founder & Chairman, Taiwan Seminconductor Manufacturing Co.

The Committe of 100 was founded in 1989 by prominent Chinese Americans. It is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit membership organization composed of Chinese American leaders in a broad range of professions. With their knowledge and experience, they are committed to a dual mission: (1) encouraging stronger relations between the US and Greater China and (2) encouraging the full participation of Chinese Americans in all aspects of American life.

I attended this conference today and will be there for the next two days. Please watch for notes here in the blog about things I heard and saw.

For now, I can say it is refreshing to see such a concerted effort on the part of Chinese Americans to promote good relations between China and America especially at a time such as this.

What do you think?
