China Teaches Walmart a Lesson.

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 8 May 2006No Comment

Andrew Tsui is Senior VP of Walmart . He recently spoke in San Francisco at the Committee of 100 15th annual convention.

He shared a simple lesson that Walmart learned from doing business in China.

Instead of their sprawling one level buildings, they now have a multi-level store in the Los Angeles area. The lesson was learned he said – in China.

He said they also have parking spaces for horse and buggies in a northern Ohio county that is home to one of America’s largest Amish communities.

Hmmm…I don’t think the Amish will go shopping at Walmart….maybe the Mennonites.

But the lesson is not lost….Walmart can learn and adapt, too.

What lesson would you like to teach Walmart?

I think that wal-mart can go stick a half priced pair of shoes right up there butt. I recall a few quarters ago when I had Phile for speech class, we had informational speech presentations. During one of the presentations, a student talked about how Wal-Mart is killing america. It’s taking out all the small businesses out there and making itself some what of a monopoly. I’m not saying that Wal-Mart doesn’t sell good products, I’m just saying that it’s taking down everyone else just to make those prices so low. And one more thing. Most of the business Wal-Mart deals with is inporting goods rather than exporting. So it’s making America pay for cheap prices.

We get cheaper prices at Wal-mart…but we must pay for it somewhere else…loss jobs, no mom and pop stores. Everything comes with a price…even cheaper prices, eh?

    Good comments.

You may compare Wal-mart’s prices with other stores. If you do, you would know that Wal-mart is a gambler! Some of the product are low, but other product prices are higher than other store. This way Wal-mart would cover the lost on the low price product. I won’t be surprise if India doesn’t allow Wal-mart business in their country. The question is why Wal-mart wants to go that far? Is there any profit from a poor country like India? Or maybe low labor? Becuase there is no over time pay in India!
