China and India – Still in Need of Charity

Posted by Bill Belew on May 4th, 2006 in China, India | No Comments

It seems that China and india are still in need of charity.

That’s what Intel and AMD are calling their respective contributions to these two ‘developing’ countries.

Intel has been developing a low-cost, energy efficient PC ($450 classroom computer that runs Windows) and AMD has been developing a Sub-$250 computer that run a lower-cost Linux operating system.

My questions are – just how laudable are the intentions of these two companies? Can’t China and India take care of themselves? When will these two countries be able to do that? Or is this just part of a grander scheme for future marketing opportunities disguised as charity?

What do you think?
